All that glitters is... pretty good

We're deep in the midst of the runDisney season, with a predictably-chaotic Wine & Dine registration is in the rearview mirror and we're approaching the double-whammy of Princess Half Marathon Weekend and WDW Marathon registration in the next few weeks. While all this is going on, we finally get a look at the 2026 Springtime Surprise medals.
I don't know if it's because it's the shortest total distance or the lack of cohesive theme from year to year, but the Springtime Surprise always seems like the black sheep of runDisney (even though it usually includes some of the best movies/characters). While the overall theme of the 2026 Springtime Surprise seems to be friendship/dynamic duos, runDisney has a good amount of work to do pull everything together.
I won't go over each medal in too much detail - they're all pretty cartoonish (in a good way!) as most of the SS medals have been in recent years. They don't seem to have the same mystique as the WDW Marathon Weekend medals, nor are they as regal and polished as the Princess Half Marathon medals. However, runDisney did manage to capture each partnership with a crucial element of each duo's movie. You've got the badge shape and magnifying glass for the Zootopia-themed 5k, Pooh's honey pot for the 10k, the different memories for the Inside Out 10-miler, and of course the lamp and flying carpet for the Challenge medal.
The one new element for these medals is what looks like a flowing glitter effect for the 10k, 10-miler, and Challenge medals. Again, kudos to runDisney for trying to mix in new elements in the medals. The Princess medals look like stained glass, and the glittery effect in these medals build off of that. Durability is the only concern here. Everyone is used to seeing a bit of chipping on the medals (which is strictly cosmetic), but hopefully anyone wearing multiple medals doesn't experience any cracking on the transparent glitter sections. Hoping to get a good look at these at the Princess Weekend next week!
